Original
hardware with the exception of the shorter
tip’s replaced top, and the nickel silver up
locking screw lock seat with wooden insert. It is
fitted with the original comfort fit cork handle which has been
cleaned. The rod carries the original oblong South Bend red
lettered label (100%) and lists the HCH or C nomenclature with the

full pieces of but 36 & 1/2” and middle of 36
& 3/4” and full tip of 36 & 1/2”
put the rod at 9’ 1 & 3/4”. With

All
of the original hardware on the rod is of the nickel-plated brass
with the Montague label appearing on the top of the sliding band
reelseat. The partially remaining Montague label (35%) found on the rod
perhaps dates this as being after 1950. The stripping and
snake guides are stainless steel. The ferrules are
nickel-plated rolled welt. The wraps are red and tipped with
black and feature signature wrap accents. The grip features a
5 3/4” black walnut handle. The rod is bookmarked at
the tip with an agate guide. The rod has been varnished and
restored to it’s classic beauty and while fishable, makes a
striking wall mount. It comes with a quite old and fragile
cotton cloth bag.

GOODWIN GRANGER
"Champion"
8 1/2 - feet
3 - piece (2 tips) |
|
|
This is a late era granger of the lower
grade. Only the faint
white lettering which has been exaggerated in the restoration process
identifies this rod. Coupled with this designation is the
down locking screw aluminum reel seat and the mild reversed half-Wells
grip of five and 1/2, 1” cork grip sections. The
nickel silver ferrules are original and the male ferrule of the mid
section is split but as the ferrule is pinned it will make little
difference. The wraps are green tipped with red and the 7
signature wraps are red/green/green/red/green/green/red.
There is a hook keeper and one tip has a slight set to
it. Another beautiful rod to look at or fish. It
comes with the original cloth bag which is rather frayed.
